Eco-Friendly Choices
Lyptus is a true premium high-grade hardwood; a
perfect choice for the eco-conscious homeowner. Plantation
grown in Brazil; this eucalyptus hybrid harvests in 15 years so it is
readily available. Lyptus is an environmentally responsible
product. It features a grain similar to mahogany with a rich,
cherry coloring and is versatile enough to take a wide range of
stains and finishes for a lighter or darker look to complement nearly
every décor.
Bamboo is another eco-friendly choice because it regenerates and
reaches maturity in five to six years when it is at the height of its
strength and performance capabilities. Although not classified
as a wood, Bamboo is a grass that is much denser and therefore
stronger than hardwoods. Bamboo is a very stable material
because it absorbs less moisture and does not shrink or swell as much
as most other hardwoods.

LEED
Opportunity
Kirei Board (pronounced KEY' ray)
is a strong, lightweight, durable, environmentally
friendly substitute for wood that is usable in furniture, cabinetry,
casework, and interior design elements. Manufactured from
reclaimed sorghum straw, no-added-formaldehyde (NAF) adhesive and
Poplar, Kirei board brings a beautiful new element to modern interior
design.
Sorghum, the fifth most important cereal crop grown in the world,
with the US being the largest producer. It is used for foods
such as couscous, flour, popcorn, molasses and syrup; distilled beverages
and gluten-free beer such as Wisconsin's "New Grist" and
Anheuser-Busch's "Redbridge"; and production of ethanol.
Kirei Board reduces forest clear-cutting, air
pollution and landfill use. The sorghum stalks used in the
manufacture of Kirei Board are a rapidly renewable resource left
after the edible portion of the plant is harvested. Kirei
Bamboo is made from Moso Bamboo Grass which grows as much as a foot
per day on reclaimed farmland in a plantation environment. This
keeps the Panda protected to live in an uncut habitat.
Kirei Board and Kirei Bamboo can be an excellent way to help your
project qualify for LEED credit for environmentally friendly
construction.
